How is ERE-E calculated?

The formula

ERE-E = kWh × renewable share × 183 × 3.6 ÷ 1,000

The factor 183 is the fossil reference in grams of CO₂-equivalent per megajoule. Multiplying by 3.6 converts kWh to megajoules. Dividing by 1,000 converts grams to kilograms: one ERE represents one kilogram of lifecycle emission reduction.

Use only electricity demonstrably supplied to eligible transport. A terminal's or building's total consumption is not a suitable input.

Grid electricity in 2026

The NEa uses the Dutch renewable grid share from two years before the delivery year. For 2026, that share is 50.5%. Enter it as 0.505.

This is the arithmetic result before processing in the REV. The register determines the formal credit.

On-site generation and mixed supplies

Businesses may use 100% for qualifying renewable electricity generated on site or supplied through a direct line. A green electricity contract alone is insufficient. Meter readings and origin records must establish the portion supplied to transport. Private individuals always use the grid average, including those with solar panels.

Suppose 40,000 kWh out of a 100,000 kWh transport supply meets the 100% conditions. The remaining 60,000 kWh comes from the grid:

Calculate each portion separately and add the results. The higher share must follow from the meter data. It is not a freely chosen assumption. See the conditions for 100% renewable electricity.

Converting units into revenue

Multiply saleable ERE-E units by the agreed price per unit, then deduct service, verification and administration costs.

An ERE-E price is a market or contract price. Use several price scenarios in your budget. Account for sector and duration as well: under current rules, shore power to inland and seagoing vessels can only be booked until the end of 2029.
